Ķeipene Cinema Station (Sergei Eisenstein Communication Center)

One of the most unique places in Latvia, this museum co-founded by August Sukutas is dedicated to the life and work of the director who was born in Latvia but did not grow up in the Vidzeme highlands. It is located in an equally prominent railway station and is complete with photogenic installations!

The station area gets a new element or environmental installation from time to time. This is like a meeting place for movie greats, with a giant table, chairs, and a lighthouse. A tunnel of 24 film frames runs across the tracks. It is like a tribute to the first film reel. Latvian and Spanish flags flutter in the wind on the edge of the platform. An environmental installation object has been built underground. It is 8 meters long and 4 meters wide "Potemkin's Well", which is designed as an underground exhibition hall, with the main emphasis on Sergei Eisenstein's film "Battleship Potemkin".
The place is perfect for visitors of all ages.
The place is open to a large number of people. Please contact the museum for information about group restrictions.
In the station the world's only publicly viewable exposition dedicated to the great spirit of cinematography, director Sergei Eisenstein, was created. This is how the team and associates of the "Arsenāls" film festival head Augusts Sukuts once thought, while going on a somewhat surreal journey by train to Ķeipene during the festival. The excursion must be booked in advance!
The station opened in 1937, it had 3 tracks and a dead end. The current station building was built in 1950. A few years before the stoppage of trains on the Ērgļi Line, the station was converted into a stopping point and the adjacent tracks were demolished. The stop was closed with the closure of the railway line in 2009. In 2018, the building underwent a simplified renovation. Ķeipene is the only place where a section of tracks from the former train route Riga - Ērgļi has been preserved.
