Kāla Lake (Kālezers)
Kāla lake is one of the best-known lakes in the Vidzeme highlands. Over the years the lake gathered around it both fishermen and vacationers, as well as music and art lovers and creators.

The islands of Kālezers are included in the nature reserve, the lake itself is included in the protected landscape area of Vestiena. In 1956, a dam was built at the source of Veseta, raising the water level by approximately 1 meter. There are 5 islands in the lake with a total area of 28,897 ha. The bed is sandy, pebbly, and in some places muddy. The banks are steep, the lake is very scenic. There were 12 species of fish found. There is a hydrological station on the east coast.
The first, at that time also the annual cultural and artistic event "Sounds of the Lake" was held on Lake Kāla in 2012. The concert started at five in the morning before the sunrise on a floating stage in the middle of Kāla Lake. Later, the event was supplemented with art installations and a summer school. Several thousand people attended the event in 2016. The event is currently inactive; however, satellite events are being held elsewhere. Cemetery "Vestienas Jaunie kapi” is situated next to the bathing area. The cemetery is special, with a chapel built in 1930, which is a white building on the side of the road.
