Ērgļi station

A remnant of the once lost railway traffic, the historical Ērgļi station has been revived by the hands of Māris Olte to gather like-minded lovers of nature and rural tourism, who are not afraid to get their feet wet, discover something new and taste delicious things in a quaint rural corner.

Ērgļi station is one of the best examples of site renewal outside of cities in Latvia. Its purpose is to give life to seemingly lost places and themes, to combine them with available wealth and, of course, a unique personality. The heart and soul of the station is Māris Olte - biologist, journalist, presenter, businessman and public worker. A meeting with Māris Olte, walking trails and tastings are available on site. Various public events dedicated to nature and rural tourism are often held at the station (for example "Tūrisma salidojums"). You can buy coffee and charge an electric car there. Read more about Māris in the "Human Stories" section of our page.
From spring to autumn, a weekly pop-up restaurant is available at Ērgļi station. It works from Thursday to Sunday, and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays you can also get breakfast and a spontaneous lunch offer. Follow the station's Facebook account, reservation is mandatory.
Ērgļi station, its offers and surroundings are excellent for family activities - excursions, tastings and hiking. There is a small hill for sledding nearby and equipment rental is available.
Ērgļi station can be visited by large groups upon prior request and coordination of the visit.
The station was built in 1937. It was not planned as the terminus of the "Rīga - Ērgļi" line, as it was intended to extend the line to Madona, where it would be connected to the railway line Madona - Lubāna, which was planned to be extended to Kārsava. However, these plans were disrupted by World War II. After the war, Ērgļi station remained the terminus of this line, as it was not extended. In Ērgļi, a railway embankment has been preserved up to the River Ogre, over which a bridge was built during the German occupation, which was blown up by the Soviet army. In 2009, the dismantling of the Riga-Ērgļi railway began, and the rails at the Ērgļi station were removed.
There are several Ragnar Glamp Ērgļi cabins available in the station area. Inquire about the offer and availability by searching for accommodation here on the "Vidzemēs" website.
Ērgļi station is suitable for small events with activities, catering, and accommodation. Please contact the station for details and requirements.
The station was built in 1937, and has been renovated in recent years. The shape of the station is functional, minimalist, similar to other station buildings of that time, especially on the "Rīga - Ērgļi" line. In the centre of the building there is a spacious waiting room, the decor of the window panes has been preserved, and the old waiting chair can be seen in the middle of the waiting room. There are also other less important technical buildings and their remains on the territory of the station; the line along which the railway ran is clearly visible. A terrace was built next to the station.
During the winter season ski rental is available at the station. Reservation of equipment is mandatory (it is in high demand!). In winter, the Ērgļi cross-country ski track opens from the station, guided ski hikes are available, and an annual ski fair is also organised. Next to the station there is a hill for the little "extremists".
