Raunas Staburags

A unique natural object of the post-glacial age, Raunas Staburags is a freshwater limestone outcrop formed by springs and the most characteristic limestone formation in Latvia.

Raunas Staburags is located on the slope of the right bank of the Rauna valley. The object is a limestone formation approximately 3.5 m high and 17 m long, formed by the calcification of moss in the calcium carbonate-containing spring water over many centuries. The spring that flows over Staburags continues to expand it even today. There is a niche up to 1.1m high and up to 1.3m deep in the cliff, where the waters of the springs flowing down the slope flow. The total length of the stepped cliff is 35 m. It is forbidden to climb Raunas Staburags!
The object is available for larger groups, respecting the Staburags.
