Madona State Gymnasium building

The reconstructed building of Madona State Gymnasium was put into operation on December 28, 2020. It is a building where every one of us would like to study!

A large number of visitors can view the building from the outside.
In the fall of 1924, the town of Madona and the high school held a ceremony for laying the foundation stone of the new school building in the beautiful building plot. In 1925, the topping out ceremony took place. The construction of the new school building was completed in 1926 and the ceremonial opening took place on December 19. It took the name Madona State Gymnasium in 1938/1939. During the Second World War, the building housed a hospital. Later, Madona's 2nd primary school was located here. The lessons were held in Russian from 1946 to 1996. In 2015, the municipality made a decision on investments in the Madona State Gymnasium and the 1st and 2nd secondary schools of the city of Madona (which are combined). The planning of the restoration of the school building and territory was started. Due to the restrictions set in the country, classes in the renovated building of Madona State Gymnasium resumed on September 1, 2021.
The building was built in 1926 as the first three-story building in Madona. It was a secondary school designed by civil engineer Arnolds Maidels, and it cost about 260,000 lats. The educational institution was created at the expense of the state, municipality and local residents. The reconstruction and cleaning of the building and the territory started in May 2019. The building was put into operation on December 28, 2020, but in February 2021, the activities of Madona State Gymnasium were transferred to the reconstructed building.
The gymnasium building can be reached at any time of the year.
