Bānūži Holy Spring

Driving along a respectfully arranged road will bring you to a small deposit of springs, which have stored great customs and myths of the ancient Latvians.

12 springs flow from the Bānūži mound, the most famous of them is the holy spring. The spring is located in the forest, and its water was considered healing in the past.
The place is available for a large number of visitors.
It is believed that the name of the Bānūži holy spring originated in those times, when a wooden castle stood nearby, on the mound near the Bānūži lake. Sources written in the 19th century mention that near the Bānūži hill there was a Jānis hill with a giant oak tree. There sacrifices were made in the past. It is possible that the Bānūži mound, the holy spring and Jānis hill with an oak tree are part of a single complex of ancient sites.
The place is available at any time of the year.
