Aderkaši Saint Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church

The very simple and very bright Aderkaši Orthodox Church with its blue turrets perfectly fits into the landscape as a unique and successfully preserved monument of Orthodox culture in the Vidzeme highlands.

The place can be visited by a large number of people. Please apply for the opportunity to see the church from the inside prior to the visit.
The church in Aderkaši (former Sisegal) was built in 1867 by order of Emperor Alexander III. More than 100,000 Latvians joined the Orthodox church in three years in the 1940s exactly in this place in Vidzeme. The first head of the Aderkaši (Sisegal) church, priest Jānis Līcis, was one of the translators of the texts of the services into Latvian, and nowadays the services in this church are still served in Latvian. K. Blodons, known as the author of Orthodox school books, also served here.
The repair and restoration works of the church began with the blessing of His Holiness Alexander, the Metropolitan of Riga and all Latvia, with the efforts of parishioners in 2008.
The place can be viewed from the outside at any time.
