Rauna Nature Trail

It turns out that most of Rauna’s natural wealth can be captured in one great and healthy walk, which is also interspersed with industrial and cultural-historical objects!

The Health or Nature Trail created in 2013 runs along the right and left banks of the Rauna River. It is possible to enjoy the diversity of nature and history on the less than 2 km long trail. The white sandstone outcrops, the rocky bed of the Rauna River and the industrial heritage alternate with the majestic Tanīsa hill, the mysterious Velnala and corners of untouched nature.
The place is available for visitors of different generations. The nature trail is equipped with many elements promoting physical activity that will appeal to younger generations.
The place is suitable for a wide range of visitors.
The Tanīsa mound on the way was one of the largest and most fortified mounds of the ancient Latgalians. The hill has been inhabited since the 6th century BC. There is a possibility that the Satekle castle could have been here. In this castle the ancient Latgali chieftain Rūsiņš ruled. You can read more about Tanīsa hill here, on the "Vidzemēs" website.
At the place where the Ličupe flows into Rauna, the flow of water has created the possibility for a pond to form, on the bank of which a mill was once built and operated. The mill is included in the list of protected cultural monuments. The Rauna water mill was built in 1883. In 1900, a steam engine was installed in the Rauna mill as an additional motive power for carrying out work. The water mill, which is several years old, was used for electricity production.
The place is available at any time of the year.
