Pulgosnis Lake

Nowadays this small beach near the Āķēni bus stop is invisible from the outside. However, it has been popular since Soviet times! – nav apstirpināts, nelikt!

Pulgosnis (also Āķēnu lake, Spulgosnis, etc.) is a clear water lake in the protected landscape area of Vestiena. The shores are low, sometimes steep, the bottom is muddy, sometimes sandy, stony, gravelly. Two islands with a total area of 0.6 ha in the lake; the largest of them, Siena Island, is located in the middle of the lake, and the smallest is at the south-eastern end. Several ditches flow into it, the Āķēnupīte flows out into Ogre. Roach, bream, rudd, pike, perch, tench, plicca bjoerkna and crucian carp live in the lake. On the northern side of the lake there is another swimming area. On the eastern side there is the memorial museum of the Jurjāni brothers "Meņģeļi" and the holiday house "Ramuļēni".
