Meņģele observation tower and Dullais Dauka grove

There is a curious boy Dullais Dauka in each of us who always wants to know what lies beyond the distant horizon. You can hope to see it from this thorough and wonderfully maintained observation tower!

The only publicly accessible wooden observation tower with a grove and a nature trail in the immediate vicinity has been opened in the territory of the "Ogres ieleja" nature park, on the border of Meņģele and Taurupe rural territories. The tower offers a beautiful view of both territories, as well as the valley of the Ogre River. It was built in the same place where the fire tower was located in the 1960s and 1970s.
The small curious boy Dullais Dauka is emphasized in this project because the writer Sudrabu Edžus, the author of the story about this boy, was born in Meņģele rural territory and spent his childhood here. The writer's childhood home "Zvaniņi" is located on the border of Taurupe and Meņģele rural territories, on the old bank of the Ogre river. In the grove of oaks and birches near this house, the folk poet Imants Ziedonis and his associates created the Dullais Daukas trail with special stones, one of which has the inscription "Dullais Dauka".
The place is perfect for visitors of all ages.
The place can be visited by a large number of people. There is a parking lot next to the territory.
The observation tower is also open during the snowy season.
