Ogres ielejas aplis (Ogre valley circle) – a bicycle route

It’s rare to find well-prepared and marked bike routes, but this one, with an audio guide through the historic Ogre Valley, is one of them.

The main highlight of the route is the Ogre Valley nature park, which is scenically very attractive in all seasons. Park-like meadows and mixed oak, elm, and ash forests can be seen here on the banks of the Ogre River. It is a typical rural landscape. It is complemented by a rope bridge over the Ogre River, a viewing platform and a viewing tower. The small Sumulda river, which flows into the Ogre river, is interesting. It is possible to ride the route through the alternative section, which allows you to observe charming landscapes, but during the rainy season, part of the road may be difficult to pass.
The circular route is approximately 35 km long and has 18 stops. The route can be started from anywhere. It is labeled in both directions. The starting point indicated on the "Vidzemēs" website is at the House of Culture of Mazozoli parish. The stops are numbered in ascending order. Half of the route's roads are asphalt and half are gravel/dirt.
The route is perfect for cyclists of different ages, but we recommend that children should be of at least primary school age.
The route is suitable for large groups. There is a large parking lot at the starting point indicated on the "Vidzemēs" website at the Culture House of the Mazozoli Parish.
The route includes many historical places around the Ogre Valley. The official Ogre region audio guide is available.
The route includes a wide range of architectural and urban objects of different times, for example the "Rīga - Ērgļi" railway line, Ogre St. Elizabeth Church, Meņģele Lutheran Church and Meņģele Lookout Tower, Aderkašu St. Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church, Taurupe Manor, etc.
