Perhaps Vanagkalns is one of the most picturesque ski complexes in Latvia. Vanagkalns is managed by Raimonds Dombrovskis, and it is also one of the most recognizable places among cross-country skiers.

People and location
Tracks leading through charming landscapes have been created around the hills of Jaunpiebalga.
Cross-country skiing is possible (tracks for skate skiing and with ski tracks along the edge and in the middle of the descents; distinct mountain climbs with landscapes with a total distance of 30 - 40 km). Organized hiking with skis, night skiing with an illuminated track about a kilometer long with two ascents and descents is available. The annual ski festival takes place in the area.
Cross-country skiing equipment rental is available. Ski preparation and greasing under the guidance of professional masters is offered. It is possible to buy new or used inventory. Hikes with and without an overnight stay in the open air are organized. Meals, camping and transportation of belongings are included. The hikes are especially impressive during the full moon.
The owner of Vanagkalns, Raimonds Dombrovskis, is a multiple US champion in biathlon, an experienced leader of adventure expeditions. He has created the largest network of cross-country skiing routes in Latvia. Read more about Raimonds in the "Human Stories" section.

In the barn you can warm yourself by the fireplace, get hot drinks and cook your own food. Sleeping here on mattresses and couches. The ski base is available for 10-12 people within comfort limits. It is hostel type accommodation. Sleeping on two balconies is available. Your own bedding is needed. There is a sauna, there is no TV.
It is possible to reserve a place for special events to celebrate birthdays or gatherings of friends. The mountain is open for corporate winter sports events.
