Voļģu Devil’s Stone

Seemingly undiscoverable, the Voļģu Devil’s Stone is a great destination for serious trail hikers in the middle of a thick and ancient forest.

It is a large pyramidal boulder, the height of which reaches four meters (!) from the side of the ravine, and the circumference is 12 m. It is located in the middle of a thick and wet forest. There is a footpath with a footbridge. There is a small hollow in the highest facet of the stone, the origin of which is only conjectured. At the bottom of the ravine, in the A direction, there is a tree-free area, which makes the stone stand out even more. It is more exposed on the side of the ravine, on the slope. It is a special place and an archaeological monument of local importance. NB! From the sign next to the road, you have to go 600m along the path, which can be muddy in rainy weather, and continue along the boardwalk to the stone.
The space is available for small groups, but not suitable for large vehicles.
The legend of the devil is associated with the stone. "Once upon a time, the Devil sat on this stone. Sitting here, he sewed his trousers. He was using a thill like a needle. Unfortunately, the rooster crowed immediately. The devil heard this and let his feet know it. While sitting, the Devil made a hole which looked like a cauldron in the stone, but running away, he dug out a stream with his foot, which flows past the Devil's stone." (Urtāns, 1990)
