Alley of Verene Manor

Preserved from the second half of the 19th century, this narrow, scenic alley in Vērene leads to the main building of the manor. The alleys are on the list of protected alleys.

The alley is dominated by biologically old oak trees. Two protected invertebrate species have been found in it – the jet ant (Lasius fuliginosus) and the hermit beetle (Osmoderma barnabita). In total, 66 hollow trees can be found on the territory of the alley, as well as dead wood, exposed wood with saproxylic insect escapes, mushroom fruiting bodies, succulent trees and nests of Hymenoptera, which are important microbiotopes of invertebrates. Also, two moss indicator species of natural forest biotopes – Neckera pennata and Homalia trichomanoides were found in the alley. The species in the alley have a suitable microclimate, it has greater shade and humidity. Four protected lichen species have also been found in the alley – Lobaria pulmonaria with 9 deposits, Pleurosticta acetabulu with 6 deposits, Sclerophora pallida with one deposit and Chaenotheca phaeocephala with one deposit.

The house of the lords of Vērene manor was built in 1860, the granary was already built in 1771. At the moment, the manor complex is in critical condition. You can find more about the manor here on the "Vidzemēs" homepage.
