Railway bridge over Līčupe

This bridge is small and inconspicuous, yet interesting. It will be a treat for industrial heritage seekers.

A stunning landscape opens up to the small valley of Līčupe river from the top of the bridge. There are stairs which you can use to go down to the river and enjoy an equally beautiful view of the bridge itself.
The Rīga - Ērgļi line was closed and a part of it, at least in the section that goes over Līčupe river, has been turned into a safe lane for pedestrians, runners and cyclists as part of "European Greenways".
The place is attractive for different generations, including children and young people.
The place is accessible to a large number of visitors only on foot or by bicycle.
It was built in the 1930s as a metal girder bridge at the place where the former, now dismantled, railway line Rīga-Ērgļi crosses Līčupe river. The length of the bridge is 38.9 meters. The bridge was blown up in 1944. It was restored in 1951. The metal span was replaced with a reinforced concrete structure in 1999. It is one of the highest bridges in Latvia. The railway line was closed in 2007.
