Plātere mound

This archeological monument of national importance in Madliena is also well decorated and is just waiting for travelers to stop, especially during the summer solstice!

The mound is built on a 20 m high hill. In order to maintain the mound, the ground was excavated at the bottom, a deep and wide ditch was created on three sides, and a terrace was created on the fourth. Two giant oaks with a circumference of 6 m grow near the hill. At the moment, there is a well-equipped, very scenic resting place on top of the hill with a picturesque view of its valley.
The place will appeal to visitors of different generations, especially teenagers.
The place is available for a large number of visitors.
Judging by the isolated finds, the mound was inhabited from the 5th to the 13th century. There is an opinion that the hill was the geographical center of Latvia before the relocation of the eastern border of Latvia. In the 1760s, the baron of Plātere – E. Tiesenhausen ordered the construction of artificial castle ruins on the hill, they are partially preserved. During the Soviet era, there was a stage on the mound, and when the road to it was built, the embankment was dug over. The mound has long been known as a place to celebrate the summer solstice.
The place is available at any time of the year.
