Old world dishes from Latvian and Baltic German cuisine, which the talented chefs enrich with exquisite novelties. Food products are supplied mostly from surrounding farms. Berries and mushrooms are from our own forest. An excellent wine list overseen by the 4th best sommelier in the Baltics, "Gutenberga" and Sandis Solims – the owner of the manor himself. The restaurant is open in the afternoons, the working days depend on the seasons. Please reserve a table before your arrival.
The place is very responsive to visitors of different ages. During your free time, you can play croquet, use sticks for Nordic walking, swings, walking paths, a children's playground, a slide in the lake, swimming areas, pick mushrooms, forest and garden berries, or do gardening.
In general, it is possible to provide around 50 beds in Mārcienas Manor. Up to 100 guests can be provided with self-catering rooms. Please send us a message if you are interested in SPA or sauna options.
Mārciena was first mentioned in writing in 1213 in the Indrikis chronicle, when the Bishop of Riga Alberts and the King of Jersika lands Visvaldis met in Marxne to sign the surrender agreement, according to which the state lands of Jersika, like Courland and Zemgale before, passed into the possession of the German crusaders and the Livonian Order. From the end of the 13th century Mārciena was the property of the Baron Tiesenhausen family. From the middle of the 19th century, the owner of Mārciena was Baron Voldemar von Maydel. During the founding of Latvia, the owner of the manor was Baron von Hanshman. His wife Veronika Asers was one of the most talented students of the composer Jāzeps Vītols and one of the founders of the Latvian State Conservatory. The manor was reduced after World War I according to the laws of the Free State of Latvia. An orphanage was opened in the manor after World War II until 1996. There the writer Ilze Indrāne worked and described that time. Later, Mārcienas primary school was located in the manor.
Four triple, cosy hostel-type rooms, fifteen double, cosy hostel-type rooms, Standard DBL/TWIN rooms for up to 3 persons, Suite class rooms with a king size double bed, canopy and large blanket, antique furniture and paintings are available. "Kalēja māja" is also available. It is a private house with a wide landscape outside the windows. There are lawns, grills and summer furniture near the house. A spacious living room has a fireplace and an equipped kitchen and two comfortable pull-out sofa beds.
Halls of different sizes are available for day conferences, weddings, banquets for up to 100 guests. The halls are equipped with a screen, audio and video equipment, Wi-Fi. Food and accommodation for around 50 guests is provided.
In the middle of the 19th century Baron Waldemar von Meidel created an outstanding neo-rococo masterpiece, the most luxurious palace in the Baltics. However, it was sold around 1860. The unique exterior and interior photographs have been preserved in the Latvian State History Museum. The building of the lords of Mārcienas manor was built a little later as a household building and a hunting manor. In 1918, Mārcienas Castle burned down. The Red Terror of the Soviets didn’t affect Mārcienas manor.
The SPA complex is available with a swimming pool, cold water pool and 3 saunas. You can use the Sauna, a Pine needle steam bath, Himalayan salt room, Herbal tea chairs, an Outdoor hot tub, Water mill or contrast shower, as well as herbal teas, towels, bathrobes and slippers. SPA body and face treatment areas for couples and individuals are also available. The offer also includes a Latvian country sauna with birch brooms for up to 14 people and a recreation area. On the terrace there is a 6-seater oak hot tub which can be used all year round. Services of a professional certified bather are available with a bath ritual – beating, sweating, lying outside on a hay sack, herbal teas and incantations.
The manor is open all year round, the SPA gives you the opportunity to warm up even in the coldest season.
